Quilling using several strips of paper

When making dimensional shapes, e.g. as with a face, gum nuts, when it is important to achieve a smooth finish, this can be happen in two ways.

1. A smooth finish is achieved by using the smooth side upper-most. When using several strips, always feed the paper all the same side, otherwise you will get a slightly different shade of colour (this is obvious especially when using one colour).

2. When you quill several strips, do not use any glue to add in strips, do not glue strips end to end. It is the glue, when it dries, that makes lumps. So to quill lots of strips you need to

a) start with the first strip, roll 10cms and then add another strip in at the toll area, keeping the paper the same side up. Keep rolling another 10 cms and add another  strip. The shape will be getting larger. The larger you want the shape the more strips need to be added.

b) glue the end off when you have the right size shape.

Push the shape out if you want a face or gum nut and glue the wrong side to stop any movement.
